I have a CSV. She is a fantastic dog, but I am a trainer and she came to me as a rescue for extreme leash reactivity. With the right person they are a wonderful breed ❤️ That being said, so many clients have been coming to me with their reactive LGD or LGD mix. Please stop 🛑 getting these dogs as pets people. Please! They are bred to not really need people and do not make good pets for the average owner.

We had a pitbull at our facility exaxtly like this. When we couldnt make a difference in a dog we would bring her in. She was AMAZING at correction. When owners would come to watch they would freak the hell out thinking their dog is getting mauled. But afterwards there wouldnt be any puncture wounds or anything. I got attacked unexpectedly by a German Shepard and she legit saved my ass! She flew into that dog like a damn missle, then proceeded to MAKE him surrender. It completely changed him. He no longer was reactive, an never once attacked anyone as long as he was at our facility!

Another great podcast. I love the question from the first caller about trauma and genetics, it is true for people and it's called epigenetics. Females are born with all the eggs they will ever have, so even if your mother breaks the cycle of abuse while raising you, if she was abused as a child, the egg that will eventually become you, was with her during that abuse and there can be residual trauma remaining in your biological make up. Trauma changes you down to your cellular make up. It makes sense that it would be the same for dogs. Have an amazing day.

Yes, Joel's video of the Rottweiler named Creed is the one I fwd to my students for the doorway method, loose leash walking, and reactivity - covers it all. If you can't do this at the doorway, not getting any better out on the walk. We'll do the doorway method all day. If people just did that for even one day, without doing a walk, what a difference it would make. They have to earn their way on a walk. Putting in the work up front pays dividends later! One of the trainers whose classes I attended had a Rottweiler. The trainer was a whole week back and forth in her driveway with string cheese hanging out of her mouth. The neighbors were even making fun of her. Guess what? The dog never left her side on a walk after that week, neighbors not laughing anymore. Hope that helps.

Im a child with family that survived the Holocaust. My great grandma was apparently a very mean woman from what my mom said, my grandma was also very isolated and ive only ever seen her twice. My moms whole family is isolated and dysfunctional and so is my mom and me. Trauma does seem to pass down every generation atleast in our case.

I have fostered and owned Great Pyrenees dogs. The only thing I found on the negative side is that they are stubborn. They aren't hard to train but they have a mind of their own. They are independent which is a good thing except when it comes to getting them to come inside. They love to be outdoors. I trained my current dog to come inside by using a whistle. I've had her for over five years and it was only last year that I figured out she will come running when I blow the whistle. I no longer have to use the whistle for her. I love this breed because they are so majestic, loyal, beautiful and loving. The shedding is awful but that's the price I pay.

She's the sweetest dog ever and we love her to death. She's excellent at calling in our two cats at bed time. Totally has them trained to come running when she barks.

58:14 raising my two sons, I intuitively knew that when I needed to correct my sons with punishment for either doing things they weren't supposed to or not doing things they were supposed to, I had to make the corrections calculated without wrath, yet severe enough to make them realize that dad will not put up with it. If I was angry, I would send them to their room to wait for me. They didn't know I was giving myself time to cool off and collect my composure and decide exactly how to handle the situation. I'm actually very satisfied with how they have come to respect authority, be considerate of others and not only follow the rules, but learn how to make rules as bosses.

10:32 The big difference is this. They have no accknoeldment of the breed's drives, exercise requirements, and pack mentality, and don't care because they don't consider future ramifications. Most of your videos (all that I've seen) focus on people's lack of accknoldemnt on pack mentality. In my opinion, I think 90% of the issues with dogs come from people expecting their dog to be a teddy bear and nothing more. This concept justifies why so many people make the wrong decision about what breed they should consider.

Having owned more than one cattle dog, and similar breeds. The cattle dog behaved as it would, knowing it was compromised by the muzzle. The behavioural theory you explained is correct, but I can’t help wondering if prince owes his safety to the muzzle. Great video to help people to allow dogs to communicate before human intervention. There are often exceptions in dog behaviour as well, I reckon. One cattle dog cross breed I had, held a particular long and vindictive memory, negating any trust in future engagements with the same dog.

You can walk 3 dogs - I used to walk between 4-6 dogs on leash as a dog walker. I actually found it easier to walk more dogs than less because they formed a pack at 3+. It's all about you being in charge - that's all it is.

Yeah, people love the idea of having a dog. HellyWeird has played a huge role in personifying dogs (and other animals) with characteristics of mankind with screen characters and cartoons. People see them in the light of how they've been influenced to and seeing more and more, "keeping up with the Joneses" doesn't do well for breaking out of their programming and learn the reality of dog ownership with all of its real challenges and the education that's necessary to even decide what dog ownership consists of.

When Joel told the dog walker to attend to the GSD's happiness first, it reminded me of watching Caesar Milan. Caesar doesn't seem to train dogs so much as earn their trust and respect. A whole pack of dogs does follow a man at heal down the street out of operative conditioning, it simply feels good to be part of a reliable pack with a decent leader.
